Adenoid removal is surgery to take out the adenoid glands. The adenoid glands sit behind your nose above the roof of your mouth in the nasopharynx. Air passes over these glands when you take a breath. The adenoids are often taken out at the same time as the tonsils.

When food is swallowed, it typically passes through the mouth to the throat and into the esophagus, which leads to the stomach. Sometimes a swallowed object is too large and gets stuck in the esophagus. The most common item that children swallow that gets stuck is a coin. Children under the age of 4 years are in the greatest danger of getting food or an object stuck in the esophagus.

Surgery is most commonly used to remove the tumour and some of the nearby healthy tissue. The tissue around the tumour is called the margin. Tumor removal may be the only treatment. Or it may be used with other treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
